RATING

With the right budget, you can get a gaming PC that runs the whole gamut, but there are re-built systems like the CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 that are designed for every possible gamer on a tight budget. While we all would love a fully decked-out beast with the fastest hardware from Intel, AMD, and Nvidia, price often determines the machine you take home, especially when shopping on a tight budget.

For enthusiasts on a budget and looking for the best bang for their buck, pre-built manufacturers like CyberPowerPC, iBuyPower, and Skytech offer several reasonably priced desktop rigs that are much cheaper than what you’d spend on similar features on an HP, Lenovo, or Alienware gaming PC.

The CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 is an entry-level gaming PC that features a robust spec sheet: Intel Core i7-14700F processor, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti graphics card, for a reasonable sub-$1500 price. This hardware is packed into an attractive white case, complete with multiple 120mm RGB fans alongside an AIO cooler for the CPU. And while this isn’t the fastest gaming PC right now, it nonetheless delivers more value than most competitors out there.

Design & Features

Let’s start with the obvious. This CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 is a looker. CyberPowerPC ditches the all-familiar black chassis of its other gaming PCs and goes for a glacial white style. The enclosure is a white rectangle with a tempered glass side panel and large mesh air intakes on the top and side. It’s a classic look that lets you view the internals and enjoy the flashy RGB on the motherboard and fans.

The Gamer Extreme VR desktop’s lights are set to breathe by default, meaning they rapidly pulse on and off, and change color in sync with the action. The fans offer RGB customizations, meaning you can adjust to an eye-catching swirling kaleidoscope of colors. Well, regardless of whether you like the RGB galore, in this case, the whole package is drop-gorgeous.

Its mid-tier chassis is all white with sharp edges, and the interior is spacious and very neatly arranged. The interior components are visible through a tempered glass side panel with gorgeous 120mm RGB LEDS.

The left side of the chassis has a CyberPowerPC logo at the bottom, just below the tempered glass panel; most of the glass is the same shadowy glass as the front panel, and part of the top panel is a dust filter with easy front access ports. While it’s gorgeously designed, the CyberPowerPC Gamer Extreme VR is huge, but that gives you some leverage should you decide to rack in some additional components in the future.

Gaming Performance

Our Gamer Extreme VR review unit is configured with an Intel Core i7-14700F processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti (16GB) graphics card, 1TB SSD storage, and 16GB of DDR5 6000MHz memory in a single-channel configuration. This is an entry-level gaming machine, but one that still packs a punch if you’re looking at playing your games at 1080p – you can get some good gameplay in 1440p as well. With the RTX 5060 Ti, this PC is ready to run most modern titles, and being VR-ready, it can drive the HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is a mid-range desktop GPU in the Blackwell lineup and combines 4,608 CUDA cores with 16GB DDR7 to deliver steady gameplay across the range. It has more VRMA than the higher-end RTX 5070, but it comes with a lesser bus width of 128 bits. Thanks to a boost in dedicated RT/CUDA cores and the new architecture, this card offers better performance than its predecessor, the RTX 4060 Ti.

The CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 plays Assassin’s Creed Mirage fluently at 1080p (Ultra) resolution at steady 131 fps, drops to 97 fps in 1440p, and just under 60fps in 4K. With DLSS activated in 4K, the fps gets boosted to 81fps, which shows just how newer features can boost overall gaming performance.

The Gamer Extreme’s competition includes the Skytech Gaming Sadow with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700 processor and RTX 5060 Ti (8GB) GPU, and Alienware Aurora with an Intel Ultra 7 265F, 32GB RAM, and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card. The CyberPowerPC is the cheapest in that category, costing just under a grand, and you can always find it on sale.

The similar load-outs of these machines translate to near-similar results in benchmark tests, where the CyberPowerPC was rarely more than a few frames per second (fps) above or below the Skytech and the Alienware.

In Doom: The Dark Ages (Ultra detail preset), the CyberPowerPC’s 81 fps at 1080p is within 2-6 fps of the others. All machines deliver just under 52 fps at 4k.

Stalker 2 (Ultra) registers similarly close results, the Gamer Extreme VR averaging 78.6 fps at 1080p, but the Alienware fares better with 92.7 fps, but all deliver around 36 fps in 4K.

Cyberpunk 2077 (Ray Tracing Ultra) is a tough game to run, but the CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 still manages around 64 fps at 1080p and just over 31 fps at 4K. The CyberpowerPC doesn’t stand out, but neither do any of the others.

CyberPowerPC GXiVR8040A17 Review: Verdict

CyberPowerPC has a winner with its Gamer Extreme GXiVR8040A17 VR PC. The company doesn’t cross the line on pricing while delivering a system with a Core i7-14700F, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD, and Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti. Performance numbers for the system put it toe-to-toe with its immediate competition, some expensive, with only a few percentage points separating them in gaming benchmarks at 1080p. It’s a great productivity machine, the same way it is excellent in 1080p gaming.

And we can’t argue with the pricing – the Gamer VR is cheaper than a similar-spec Alienware Aurora or iBUYPOWER Slate MESH, both featuring the RTX 5060 Ti graphics card. Those savings could go towards additional RAM and maybe a larger SSD to make the Gamer Extreme a beefier rig for budget-minded gaming enthusiasts.
