Behalve devote pelgrims, wandelaars en fietsers trekt de camino vooral cultuurtoeristen aan, ‘pelgrims van de kunst’. Zij willen onderweg veel zien, veel leren en genieten van het overweldigend aantal kunstwerken dat bewaard is gebleven.
Elke plaats langs de camino verdient een eigen verhaal. Onderweg naar Santiago de Compostela laat je kennismaken met de cultuur en de kunst langs de route, aangevuld met legenden en mirakelverhalen. MIREILLE MADOU studeerde kunstgeschiedenis aan de K.U.Leuven. en was docente in de kunstgeschiedenis van de Middeleeuwen aan de Rijksuniversiteit te Leiden. Haar onderzoeksgebied beslaat de heiligeniconografie, in het bijzonder die van de heilige Jakobus de Meerdere en de kunst langs de Camino de Santiago.
