Ultra-affordable 4K TVs like the Samsung U8000F will always have a place in our homes. They fulfill an important niche for folks who don’t have to spend lots of money for high-end features and high-octane performance that they don’t need in the first place. However, it’s important to understand the needs of such TVs if you ultimately want to splash out on something that will satisfy your viewing habits.
With that in mind, consider the U8000F as a not-so-good fit for bright rooms, and it is a less suitable choice for folks who need to run games on their TV or want something that showcases HDR content. It will look excellent in a dimly lit room or darkened rooms, but unlike the Hisense U8G, it lacks local dimming, meaning there’s a relatively low ceiling on how appealing dark-room viewing can be.
If you’re cast on spending the least amount of money and you’re shopping for a 70- or 75-inch TV, keep in mind that you can do better with competitors that boast even better specs and image quality, including the TCL QM6K and the Hisense 75U65QF, both use Mini-LED panels with quantum dot technology to deliver immersive viewing compared to base LEDs. Also, these alternatives add some extras like Dolby Atmos and 144Hz refresh rate, meaning they are great for gaming, and all that is worth it since it doesn’t come with an added cost.
But you’ve probably already figured that the Samsung U8000F puts affordability above all else, and if you don’t need all the additional extras beyond basic viewing, it’ll save you a ton of money, especially when looking to buy a 75- or 85-inch 4K TV.

Design & Features
The Samsung U8000F isn’t going to be the flashiest TV you’ll see this year or beyond, but it will sit calmly in most living spaces, and the build quality is good. The screen is surrounded by thin black bezels on all sides and supported by a pair of L-shaped titan gray feet that do a good job holding the TV in place. One thing you’ll love about the design is how easy they click into the back of the panel; they slide right into the back and lock securely without the use of a screwdriver and screws.
Beyond the tool-free setup, the U8000F doesn’t offer much in terms of physical design and extras. At just over two inches thick at its deepest point, it’s remarkably thicker than the Samsung Q60D, so if you’re looking for something ultra-slim, you can do better elsewhere – maybe the LG OLED Evo C4 or the Samsung OLED S90F, but you’ll spend slightly more for the OLED panels and ultra-slim design.
The remote control is similar to what you get with Samsung’s budget offerings, including the du7200 AND THE Q60D, but it doesn’t have Samsung’s Solar Cell feature that’s available on the company’s high-end models. Solar Cell is Samsung’s best hardware innovation in the last several years, and it’s a pity that they omitted it here. Omitting this feature means the included remote entirely relies on disposable batteries rather than a lithium-ion battery with both natural and artificial light-based charging.
With the U8000F, you’re not getting as robust a port selection as you would with a higher-end Samsung TV. Here, you’re getting only three HDMI inputs, while most TVs arrive with four. All three of these inputs are HDMI 2.0 variety; the lack of a fourth input might be an issue for anyone with more than three devices, and the lack of HDMI 2.1 compatibility isn’t a major issue for folks shopping in this price tier.
Picture Quality
The Samsung U8000F is a budget TV, and as such, it comes with a standard LED panel with edge-lighting, so we didn’t expect the strongest picture features on the market. However, even with the budget pricing, this TV line succeeds in some areas, but it’s definitely lacking in some.
Viewing SDR show, including low-resolution and live HDTV via antenna, the picture quality on the Samsung U8000F is surprisingly well detailed. Our review model is a large 75-inch screen; still, the low-resolution TV shows fill the entire screen well, and they don’t get as fuzzy as expected, with decent textures. HDTV looks even better, with deep, bright, and sharp detail on the screen. However, that’s not to say the image is perfect, as there are some colors that look a little overblown, especially greens, but being an LED panel and 75-inch in size, SDR content doesn’t look bad at all.
Even 4K HDR movies and TV shows, picture highlights within each different type of image are decent. With a measured DCI-P3 coverage of 89.32% in Filmmaker mode, that’s decent enough for a budget TV, but it also highlights one of the shortcomings of a model with a standard LCD panel, as compared to a QLED or OLED one.
The Samsung U8000F is a TV that chooses affordability over picture quality and nothing else.
For instance, when viewing The Batman, in a particularly dark fight scene within the opening of the movie, the Samsung U8000F once again struggles with black levels and shadow details, yet another bottleneck of the U8000F: backlight uniformity. When viewed in a brighter room, the backlight issue isn’t too obvious, but once the lights are dimmed, it can be hard to overlook.
Finally, when watching scenes from Top Gun: Maverick to evaluate motion handling, the Samsung U8000F does a decent job of processing the fast-paced shots as the jets accelerate across the screen, although motion judder is obvious in some intense scenes. Luckily, that can be remedied under settings, and that improves the TV’s motion handling, and it does so without leading to the awful soap opera effect.
The smart operations of the Samsung U8000F are powered by Samsung’s Tizen operating system. This portal has been around on even the high-end models and pretty much all of the company’s Smart TVs, and it offers a wide array of streaming services, including Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix, AppleTV+, and many others.
For audio, the Samsung U8000F is a fairly slim TV, and whilst that makes it attractive, it does have a ripple effect on audio quality. The TV comes with a 2.0-channel speaker configuration and 20W of power. This audio is incredibly basic and quite on thin side. If you already don’t have a sound system, you can pair it with an affordable audio system like the MZEIBO TV Sound Bar, especially if you have a large living room.
Samsung U8000F Review: Bottom line
If you’re shopping for a big screen smart TV and looking to save as much money as possible, the Samsung U8000F is worth considering. Given its super-low cost, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its picture quality isn’t very good and it skimps on some features that are available on high-end models, but that won’t be a deal-breaker for most people shopping in this price range.
However, if you’ve concluded from this review and you’ve decided that ultimately you’d rather spend a few hundred more on a TV with better display technology, there are a few options I’d recommend: Both the TCL QM7K and the Hisense U7 offer much better performance, enhanced features for almost the same price in the 65- to 75-inch size range.
That being said, if you’re here because all you need is a 75- or 85-inch 4K TV that’s affordable, here is the thing: the Samsung U8000F is far more affordable than most TVs in these extra-large sizes. You’ll save some money with the Samsung U8000F.
Just keep in mind, though, the Samsung U8000F may be a great deal, but it’s not necessarily a great TV.
