RATING

The Sansui ES-G27F2 may not have the backing of a popular brand name to suggest it’s one of the best gaming monitors you can buy right now, but it packs a punch for the price. For a monitor costing around $100, it’s not common to find a 27-inch display with AMD FreeSync, a bezel-less design, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms response time. That’s almost what you get on the Dell G2725D, which costs slightly more, only that the Dell ramps up the resolution to 1440p over the Sansui’s 1080p.

While the Sansui ES-G27F2 isn’t free of flaws like mediocre contrast and lack of built-in speakers, it nonetheless stands out as a good value for a budget gaming and productivity monitor. Competition is tough in the budget gaming monitors category, but it stacks up well against rivals on both features and price.

What we like

It’s good value for money

If you’re a regular buyer of budget monitors, the Sansui ES-G27F2 won’t surprise you. It might use the same plastic shell and stand as other budget 27-inch monitors, but the panel is what shines here.

For just over $100, the company has delivered a 1080p IPS monitor that’s more suited for productivity tasks than it is for gaming. On paper, it’s still a decent value in every way. Its peak brightness of 300 nits is good, and it has a better contrast ratio than most monitors in this price range. The refresh rate tops out at 165Hz, not 144, which is rare to see on a 1080p monitor at this price point.

The motion clarity punches above the price class, too. Its pixel refresh rate isn’t instant like more expensive 4K monitors, but you don’t notice any smearing or blurring in fast-paced games. Whether you’re running Overwatch 2 or rapidly swinging through skyscrapers in Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the image doesn’t degrade provided you’re shooting from a capable graphics card.

The slim, bezel-less design

The first thing you notice when unboxing the ES-G27F2 is how different it looks and feels from other Sansui monitors – most of them are curved and come with V-shaped stands. Here, you’re getting a flat 27-inch IPS display with very thin bezels on the top and sides, which is a step up from the thick bezels you’d ordinarily find on monitors in this price point.

Again, just because the Sansui ES-G27F2 is a budget monitor doesn’t mean it’s cheap. Aside from the 165Hz refresh rate, this monitor includes a DisplayPort, two HDMI ports is VESA (100mm x 100mm) compatible, should you decide to use a monitor stand apart from the one supplied in the box. It doesn’t have any USB ports, but we didn’t expect that on a budget monitor.  The stand is serviceable and stable too – you can tilt it easily enough, but not swivel.

What we don’t like

HDR is merely “ok.”

Sansui claims that the ES-G27F2 is HDR ready, but it’s one thing most manufacturers haven’t quite yet. This monitor’s HDR performance remains just basic and not good enough to compete with heavy hitters like the Inzone M9, which has 96 dimming zones to reduce and enhance perceived contrast; the ES-G27F2 has none since its display panel is an edge-lit IPS. That said, when shopping in the budget category, HDR performance is often out of your worries, and as such, we believe it won’t be a deal-breaker in an otherwise fantastic budget monitor.

Sansui ES-G27F2 Review | Verdict

The very best gaming monitors can be pretty expensive, but they deliver the best image quality, refresh rates, and motion processing. With the Sansui ES-G27F2, however, you’re getting an affordable gaming monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate with AMD FreeSync and a beautiful 27-inch IPS display.

It’s one of the few budget gaming monitors I’ve reviewed this year with fairly accurate color out of the box. Since gaming performance is mostly underlain by speed and response, the 165Hz and 1ms digits should certainly deliver an immersive gaming experience, especially if you have a card like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 that can fully utilize the monitor’s capability. Even players with average skills will benefit when a game runs consistently at over 100fps.

If you’re on a budget but want something bigger than a 22 or 24-inch screen, the Sansui ES-G27F2 is a good value. It prioritizes speed over other factors and delivers a solid gaming experience without breaking the bank. If all you need is a nice-looking, capable, and affordable monitor for both gaming and productivity, the Sansui ES-G27F2 is easily the monitor you need.
