Tefal is a trusted French cookware and small appliance manufacturer, and there are plenty of models to choose from. The Blendforce II is the most affordable yet capable range from Tefal, and the BL420840 with a plastic jar sits at the budget end of the brand’s offering.

As a pocket-friendly blender, the Tefal BL420840 is an affordable option, catering to basic home blending enthusiasts. Even with the low price, you’ll get a robust, powerful blender that gets the job done well.

It comes with a 1.25-liter plastic jug; you also have an option for a glass jug with the same capacity – model Tefal BL435840 Blendforce II. It doesn’t come with many extra accessories like you’d find on a more expensive blender, like the Vitamix 5200 – our favorite high-end blender.

It has the basic features you’d expect, as well as technology that keeps users safe, including a secure lock and a 600W motor that allows you to blend most fruits and vegetables with ease.

Tefal BL420840 Review

What we like

Nice jug design with removable blades

The Tefal BL420840 is smaller and more compact than higher-priced blenders. It measures ‎22.6 x 22.4 x 40.6 cm and weighs 1.86kg, so it doesn’t take much space on your countertop. And if you need to store it in a cupboard, it’s not too heavy to lift in and out regularly for use. However, as you’ll realize, the lightweight design is because the base and jar are plastic; it doesn’t have the same solid and sturdy brushed stainless-steel base and glass jar of higher-end blenders. As such, it’s more susceptible to movement if you’re blending tough foods.

The design is fine, practical, and not complicated. The plastic jug looks good, and it sits right above the base and is not as difficult as we’ve seen with some blenders. The stainless-steel blades are removable, making it easy to clean, especially after blending foods with lots of fiber that tend to stick to the base. It gets an ergonomic handle and a safety lock that adds a layer of safety during use. The secure lock shows you when the jug is properly locked into place, and the smart lid filling lets you add ingredients safely when the blender is in use.

Affordable, but offers solid blending

The Tefal BL420840 is straightforward to assemble and use, it costs little money, but it surprisingly offers solid blending performance. It has two-speed blending options and a pulse, meaning you can blend most foods conveniently. You can try it out with a smoothie containing apple juice, spinach, pineapple, banana, and yoghurt, and it will liquidize all ingredients into a completely smooth and aerated drink, without chunks at the base.

The tapered inner base of the jug allows it to blend very small quantities, so even when prepping mayo, it’s able to mix two egg yolks with vinegar, unlike other big capacity blenders that are often unable to mix such small quantities. Apart from food, this blender is able to crush ice, and it does so with precision in under twenty-five seconds.

With a 1.25-liter jug capacity, that’s enough to fill around four medium-sized glasses in a single session; just enough for most users. Even when the jug is filled to its max capacity and switched on, some liquid doesn’t escape to create a mess. We’ve experienced liquid spouts on some high-end blenders, but it seems like Tefal did a fine job with the Blendforce II.

Finally, this blender is dishwasher-friendly, so you can pop the jug and put it straight into the dishwasher.

What we don’t like

A small blending jug

While the 1.25-liter jug capacity is fine for some users, it can be quite limiting if you have more people in the house. Let’s face it, 1.25 liters is just under four glasses, so this may not be the best option if you’re hosting more people or need to blend a lot of juice or smoothie to consume later.

Should you need a bigger capacity, there are more options around, only that you might have to spend a little more than you’re paying for Tefal BL420840. Still, for the price, you’re getting terrific value for your buck as you’re getting an affordable entry into smoothie and cocktail preparation. You also have access to over 200 step-by-step guides via the Tefal app, making it a win on both sides.

Tefal BL420840 Review: Verdict

The Tefal BL420840 blender has all the basics you would need to make velvety smoothies, cocktails, sauces and dips, purees, iced coffees, and batters. It’s a little noisy, but if all you need is power over everything else, it’s worth your consideration.

Again, despite its low price and smaller capacity, it holds its ground against larger sizes by combining power and beauty. The overall design looks beautiful, the plastic build notwithstanding – you have a choice of a glass jar for a little more.

Whether you’re making nutritious beverages or trying out culinary creations, the Tefal BL420840 BlendForce II lives up to the hype and has the same great style and power fans have come to love. It’s our newest Editors’ Choice for budget home-use blenders.
