When it comes to pre-built gaming PCs, consumers have a rich variety to choose from, with a wide range of hardware that covers a variety of price points. Today, we have the iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO, a midrange gaming PC that includes plenty of high-end hardware to satisfy demanding gamers.

Our review unit is the iBUYPOWER Y40BA9N57T01 that is loaded with an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor, 32GB DDR5 memory, 2TB NVMe SSD – all packed into a beautiful black mid-tower case. And being a gaming rig, we would be wrong if we didn’t mention that the Y40 PRO Black is rocking an Nvidia GeForce 5070 Ti graphics card.

As expected with all that hardware under the hood, the iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO pushes into the mid-upper boundaries of pricing for mainstream pre-built gaming desktops with an MSRP of just over two grand. We especially like its competitive pricing next to mainstream competitors like the Corsair Vengeance a7500, MSI Codex Z2, or the Alienware Aurora R16.

Design & Features

The HYTE Y40 is an almost all-glass-encased behemoth that looks like an expensive fish tank with neon lights. Available for sale separately via Hyte’s website for $129, the Y40 isn’t your standard tower case: It measures 17.28 x 9.44 x 18.58 inches and takes up some bit of space. But if you’re the type of person who likes to flaunt your PC’s innards, you’ll love the spacious footprint of the Y40, which is a unique trio of glass panels spread along the left and front that lets you have clear view of the internals without any pillar blocking your view.

Getting inside the case is pretty simple: Just remove the side panel, each held in place by a single security screw on the back of the case. As ever, the amount of heat and noise generated depends on what you put inside the case, but our review unit does kick out more heat than expected during extended gaming sessions. The RTX 5070 Ti GPU is no slouch, but the PC doesn’t get loud, which is impressive, as you don’t have to use headphones regularly.

The iBUYPOWER Pro Y40 Black has a case that’s beautiful and roomy, and that means you get lots of ports. On the front of the case, there’s a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, and an audio/mic jack near the power button. You get more ports at the back: a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port (1 x USB Type-C), a USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, a pair of USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, and a pair of USB-A 2.0 ports.

You also get a DisplayPort and HDMI out, over five types of audio jacks, a 2.5Gb Ethernet port, an Optical S/PDIF out port, and a traditional PS/2 Keyboard/Mouse combo port. Also bundled into the package is an iBUYPOWER KM7 gaming mouse and keyboard with RGB lighting. You’ll have to buy a monitor separately.

Gaming & Graphics Performance

The iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO packs some beefy hardware, starting with the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor – one of the best CPUs for gaming, paired with 32GB of DDR5-5200 MHz memory, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card.

So far, there are not so many Blackwell-equipped gaming desktops for comparison, but there’s the Corsair Vengeance a7500 and the Alienware Area-51, which features a Core Ultra 9 285K, RTX 5090 combo, but is far more expensive for comparison. With a sticker price well north of $3,000, we expect great performance from the iBUYPOWER Y40BA9N57T01, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO plays games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle fluently, played on a 240Hz DQHD (5120 x 1440) gaming monitor. With all details maxed out, it delivers impeccable performance of around 100 to 120 frames per second (FPS).

The iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO packs premium hardware and delivers top-notch performance at an affordable price than competitors.

On our usual battery of titles, the iBUYPOWER Y40 plays Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Highest setting) at great precision, reaching 262 FPS at 1080p and 93 FPS at 4K resolution. That performance is much better compared to last year’s Corsair Vengeance with an RTX 4070 Super by nearly 71 and 25 FPS, respectively. The iBUYPOWER doesn’t match the Corsair Vengeance a7500 with similar hardware, but they are just under 10 FPS apart, which is understandable as they both use the Ryzen and Nvidia hardware.

On Cyberpunk 20277 (medium settings), the iBUYPOWER Y40 again shows strong performance. It manages over 95 FPS at 1080p and nearly 32 FPS at 4K. Of course, the Alienware Area with RTX 5090 dominates this benchmark, considering that Cyberpunk 2077 is a punishing title, so the double digits – 122 FPS at 1080p and 58 FPS in 4K are well deserved.

For productivity, the iBUYPOWER Y40 Black is a speedy performer, thanks to its AMD Ryzen 9 7900X processor, 32GB RAM, and a speedy 2TB NVMe SSD. Thanks to the fast SSD, the Y40BA9N57T01 does an impressive job, but it’s once again behind the Vengeance a7500 that features a PCIE 5.0 SSD.

iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO Review: Bottom Line

iBUYPOWER continues to build high-quality, high-performance pre-built gaming desktops. The iBUYPOWER Y40 PRO isn’t just a nice-looking gaming PC with its tempered glass and a plethora of RGB fans, but it also has plenty of ventilation to keep the internals cooled under load.

iBUYPOWER’s use of AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is a perfect match for the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics cards. While the RTX 5070 Ti is no match for the flagship RTX 5090, we’ve seen games exceed 60 FPS at 4K in most game benchmarks, except Cyberpunk 2077.

Given that this is an iBUYPOWER rig, it’s not surprising that the company ropes in some of its excellent hardware as well, including a PCIE 4.0 Riser cable for vertical GPU mounting, alongside the 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD storage. When you add it all up, you have a solid, albeit slightly pricey, gaming desktop that can fluently handle your current and future gaming needs.
